Happy CNY!... Kueh Lapis

Its been a long time since I've blogged and in view of the season, I really must take the chance to wish everyone of our supportive customers and friends a very Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year!

2011 has been an exciting year for us. We have recently moved to our current larger premises at Blk 46 Jln Bukit Ho Swee #01-974 S(160046). More comfort, more space and with the same hands-on learning format for our baking classes!

I felt nostalgic about Chinese New Year and decided to write a recipe for Kueh Lapis.  If you love baking i'm sure you will at some time or other feel the same gravitational pull towards retro cakes that hail from our childhood memories.  My first attempt at kueh lapis (a long time ago) was a burnt disaster. The 2nd attempt was dense. The 3rd attempt passed my mother's test but but the 4th and most recent attempt I felt was the best of all.  It sure brings back memories of my mother teaching me how to pull apart the layers to eat one by one.

After making a decent lapis cake, i feel so happy and inspired to start a Retro themed series of workshops. Check out the lovely retro ring my grandma gave me. It's not an expensive ring, but to me, it's priceless!

Wishing you a Joyful and Abundant Lunar New Year, Everyone!!
